Current Technologies, LLC and Potomac Electric Power Company (Pepco) today announced that they have expanded their relationship and will conduct a 100-home market and technical trial of the Current Technologiesª Power Line Communications (PLC) solution in the state of Maryland. For the past 18 months, Current and Pepco have been testing the technical viability of PLC in Pepco's facilities as well as in limited neighborhood deployments. "This is a natural next step in a path to eventual commercialization of PLC technologies in North America. We are optimistic about the potential of the Current Technologiesª PLC solution to enhance Pepco's utility assets," says James J. Demarest Jr., Pepco's General Manager of Strategic Planning.
"Pepco continues to be an important and progressive participant in the development of our PLC solution. Our solution will enable utilities to leverage their existing infrastructure by providing Enhanced Power Distribution Services over their distribution networks," says Richard Goldstein, Chief Executive Officer of Current Technologies.
The two companies will jointly conduct the trial in Maryland. The trial is expected to last for up to six months and will be expanded once all trial criteria have been satisfied to both parties' expectations.
